The bucket conveyor has spaced buckets (4) attached to a continuous conveyor belt (2) fed around respective deflection rollers (3) at its head and foot. The loose material is scooped up by the buckets at the foot of the conveyor and delivered to a point at the head of the conveyor, with a dynamic base (13) at the conveyor foot. The dynamic base has at least one membrane support plate (15) and an associated membrane (16) supplied with a pressurised gas at the rear. Pref. the base has a number of sections (13.1,13.2,13.3), each having a respective membrane support plate and membrane.
