PURPOSE:To obtain the title yarn bundling agent useful for producing carbon yarn, having excellent collecting properties and thermal decomposition, comprising a given high molecular weight compound obtained by reacting a specific polyalkylene oxide compound with a polyfunctional carboxylic acid, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective bundling agent containing preferably 0.1-10wt.% based on infusibilized yarn, etc., of a high molecular weight compound having =10,000 weight-average molecular weight by subjecting an organic compound (e.g. ethylene glycol) having two active hydrogen groups to addition polymerization with an alkylene oxide (e.g. ethylene oxide) containing ethylene oxide to give a polyalkylene oxide having =100 weight average molecular weight and reacting the polyalkylene oxide compound with a polyfunctional carboxylic acid (e.g. phthalic acid), an anhydride thereof (e.g. phthalic anhydride), a lower alkyl ester thereof or a diisocyanate (e.g. tolylene diisocyanate).
