Process for producing a composite conductor comprising at least one sheet consisting of two juxtaposed layers, a metal-based layer and a layer based on a superconducting material having a high critical temperature, characterised in that: - in a first step, powder of the said superconducting material or of its precursors is agglomerated with the aid of a heated calender and with organic binders so as to obtain a paste which forms a soft (pliant) plasticised strip (2), - in a second step, the said soft (pliant) plasticised strip is firmly attached by compression or co-rolling to a strip (3) based on a metal compatible with the said superconducting material, - in a third step, a heat treatment is carried out.
