A method of producing a transparent substrate of plastics material having surface tinting which is resistant to solar radiation includes the steps of: introducing at least one dye compound into a surface layer of the transparent substrate, transferring into the surface layer of the substrate at least one stabilising compound for conferring resistance to ultraviolet radiation.
