Apparatus to be explored of the underground formations, comprising a probe (100), which is configured to move through a bore hole. The probe comprises a neutron generator (10) which emits the neutrons in the underground formations. A crystal detector (50), connected to the probe, controls the output of the neutrons of the neutron generator. The crystal detector may include a crystal of silicate of yttrium, a crystal of aluminate, yttrium, a crystal of lanthanum phosphate or a crystal of phosphate lutetium. It is also possible to use a crystal of lanthanum phosphate or a crystal of phosphate lutetium to detect the photons from the underground formations. The housing under pressure of the probe can be made of stainless steel containing, in order to protect the inside of the probe of the thermal neutrons.
