When a fuel assembly is positioned in a storage pond, the absorber rod cluster is withdrawn by handling equipment lowered through the hollow arm of a refuelling crane. The handling equipment consists of a square frame with transverse plates containing holes and slots matching the geometry of the cluster so that it grips and supports the cluster as it is lifted form a fuel assembly.
