The hopper comprises a container for receiving granular material whose bottom has a horizontal rectilinear slot (9) through which the material flows by gravity. The slot is surmounted by a fixed support plate (10) extending parallel to the slot to form a passage (11) through which the material can flow towards the slot. The plate supports the weight of material above the slot, thus reducing the material pressure on the slot. The hopper has an inclined wall (62) which guides the material flow by gravity through the passage under the plate into a zone separated horizontally from the slot but communicating with it. The width of the slot can be varied by means of an elongated piece with a wedge section which can be adjusted by means of a screw. A lever (20) can tip an elongated obturator between engaged and disengaged positions in the slot for its selective closing.
