The device comprises, inside the cylindrical envelope (3) of the exhaust manifold (2), a catalyst (12) in a central location and a means (14) of adsorption of hydrocarbons in a peripheral arrangement around the body of the catalyst (12). Preferably, the body of the catalyst (12) is placed in an exhaust pipe (8) forming an end part of an exhaust line (8a) and the adsorption means (14) in a peripheral annular space between the conduit (8) and the inner surface of the envelope (3) of the collector.
