The management system for use in an electric vehicle park includes a box (1) with a keypad (2) and display (3) used by a customer in order to communicate with a central management station. The customer uses this box in order to claim or reserve a particular vehicle (5). Each vehicle includes a control circuit (6) which is in communication with the central control, and also in communication with the box carried by the customer. An exterior light (16) on the vehicle indicates whether or not it is available to hire, and a secret code transmitted between the units either locks or unlocks the vehicle doors to control access. The code also allows the vehicle to be started, this having previously been inhibited.
