The prosthesis consists of a diaphysis shank (2) of titanium alloy which broadens at its upper end to join the metaphysis section (3). The latter has a surface to promote bone growth and is extended by a cervical section (4) connected by an oblique neck (5) to a spherical head (6). The prosthesis is designed to limit an increase in direct pressure from oscillation at the metaphysis section and indirect pressure resulting from a deformation of the diaphysis. A semi-cylindrical notch (7) is lying perpendicular to the plane of the shank and on the inner edge of the prosthesis, and a channel in the metaphysis end of the shank. The radius of the notch is between 5 and 15 mm, and the channel has inner and outer radii which differ in a ratio of 0.6 : 1.
