The hand brake mechanism (1) consists of a hand lever (2), which pivots at its lower end (9), around a fixed axis (13). The other end (8) of the lever is fitted with a release button (10), which operates, through a linkage system (4), to release the ratchet mechanism (5), which locks on the hand brake. The lower fixed axis (13) is carried by a support bracket (3), which is rigidly fixed to the floor of the vehicle and is covered by the housing wall (16), which is provided with a through hole (17), which allows the intermediate part (11) of the lever, to pass through. This intermediate section of the lever is in the form of an arc of a circle, centred on the fixed axis (13), and carries the pivot for the ratchet release arm (5).
