METHOD OF RECOGNITION BY OPTOELECTRONIC READING OF ALPHANUMERIC AND SYMBOLIC SIGNS WITH HAND-WRITTEN OR PRINTED FILLING

An indicia device wherein the indiciae can be modified by handwriting and correspond to related symbolic or alphanumeric values. The indiciae are modified by entering simple bars in predetermined areas, and can be directly printed with their final values. The invention provides such a device, with a related method for analysing the image obtained by the optoelectronic scanning of the document bearing said indiciae. The method includes a system for analysing and detecting the sheet type, the areas with indiciae, the indiciae inside the areas, and any handwritten or printed changes to the base indiciae. It also includes a self-correcting technique for the optoelectronically scanned document images and a technique for learning the type and structure of the document contents. The method is useful for filling administrative documents and for repetitive checking applications, and for the fast and error-free computer acquisition thereof by optoelectronic scanning.
