USE FOR DIRECT OXIDATION OF SULFUR-BASED SULFATE AND SULFATE-BASED SULFATE COMPOUNDS OF COPPER-BASED CATALYST

A method for directly oxidising sulphur compounds into elementary sulphur and/or sulphates at a temperature of less than 200 DEG C is disclosed, which comprises using a supported catalyst with a catalytically active phase containing copper, the copper being present in an amount of at least 2 % by weight based on the catalyst component and at least 15 % by weight based on the total amount of components of the catalytically active phase. Such a catalyst provides for a high conversion of H2S while minimising conversion into SO2.
