PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily restore water repellency even after deterioration by forming silicone coating films on the surfaces of soil particles by the hardening reaction of silicone oil based on methyl hydrogen siloxane units so that the soil particles are provided with water repellency by the methyl groups or the methyl groups and other hydrophobic groups of the films. ;SOLUTION: Silicone oil based on 65-100 wt.% polymethyl hydrogen siloxane is dispersed in water or dissolved in an org. solvent to prepare a suspension or soln. having 1-20 wt.% concn. of the silicone oil. This suspension or soln. is sprayed on coarse or fine soil particles having 20 μm to 150 mm average particle diameter to stick 0.08-2.50 wt.% silicone oil to the soil particles. A dilute soln. of a catalyst made of an org. acid salt of a metal such as Zn, Sn, Zr or Ti is then sprayed and the resultant silicone coating films are hardened by heating to 120-230°C to obtain the objective soil particles provided with water repellency by the methyl groups or the methyl groups and other hydrophobic groups of the films.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
