PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such a base isolation device at a low manufacturing cost, suitable to absorb up-and-down vibration as being capable of selectively and easily controlling a trigger level. ;SOLUTION: A base isolation device 20 with an upper face plate 22 connected to the floor body 12 of a base isolation floor and a lower face plate 24 connected to a foundation structure 18 has an air spring 32 laid between the upper face plate 22 and the lower face plate 24 and a pair of friction dampers 34. The friction damper 34 consists of the first arm 40 with one end pivotally mounted on the upper face plate, the second arm 42 with one end pivotally mounted on the lower face plate 24 and the other end pivotally mounted on the other end of the first arm 40, a friction pad 54 laid between the first and second arms 40, 42 to generate friction force on relative rotation between the first and second arms and a friction force control mechanism to control thrust on the friction pad 54 for controlling friction force generated by the friction pad 54. The first and second arms 40, 42 are rotationally moved in mutual relation with the upper face plate 22 approaching and separating to/from the lower face plate 24.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
