ANTIMICROBIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL GLASS AND RESIN COMPOSITION CONTAINING THE SAME GLASS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a glass, having both antimicrobial and antifungal properties and capable of sustaining the properties for a long period and a resin composition containing the glass capable of suppressing the discoloration with silver while maintaining the characteristics of the glass and suppressing the formation of blisters. ;SOLUTION: A glass containing aluminum oxide, zinc oxide, copper oxide and silver oxide in the composition thereof is produced. The glass is capable of eluting a prescribed component into water when immersed in water and has 3-15wt.% percent loss in weight. Furthermore, the glass is contained in a resin such as an unsaturated polyester resin or uniformly dispersed in the resin. Otherwise, the glass is made to stick to the surface of the resin. A resin composition containing the glass is capable of maintaining antimicrobial and antifungal properties for a long period and suppressing the discoloration of the resin with silver.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
