PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the labor while enhancing safety by providing a gas meter with a pressure sensor and measuring the pressure along with the flow rate of gas flowing through a gas duct thereby eliminating digging work, e.g. boring. ;SOLUTION: A monitor 7 monitors gas leak from a supply pipe 2 by receiving a flow rate signal from the flow rate measuring section 6 of a gas meter 3 and a pressure signal from a pressure sensor 5. More specifically, the pressure is integrated for a set time as the gas flows at a set flow rate or above through use of gas when the leak is not present and then the integrated value and the flow rate are stored as initial values. When the gas flows subsequently at same flow rate as the initial value through use of gas, the pressure is integrated for a set time and the integrated value is compared with the initial value. A decision is made that gas leak is present when the initial value is higher. Since pressure drop due to leak is detected by comparing the integrated value of pressure, fluctuation of gas supply pressure is averaged and erroneous decision can be prevented.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
