PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silver halide photographic emulsion having excellent photographic characteristics, such as high sensitivity, low fogging, high γ and high covering power, in ultra-rapid and low replenishing processing by forming the specific value or above of the total projection area of the silver halide grains included in this emulsion to specific tabular silver halide grains. ;SOLUTION: This silver halide photographic emulsion is prepd. by forming % or above of the total projection area of the silver halide grains included in the emulsion to the tabular silver halide grains of an aspect ratio of ≥2 which are formed by growing normal crystals as main crystals and having a main face at the (100) face of 20 to 99 mol.% of a silver chloride content. While ≥50% of the total projection area of the silver halide grains consists of the tabular silver halide grains, preferably 70%, more preferably 80 to 100%, further preferably 90 to 100% consist of the tabular silver halide grains. While the average aspect ratio is ≥2, the ratio is preferably ≥2 to 20%, further preferably ≥2 to 12 and most preferably ≥2 to 8.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
