PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance reliability in joining and, moreover, to give high-heat conductivity by a method wherein a ceramic composition layer is provided on one surface side and a metal composition layer on the other surface side and a compound composition layer of which the composition and physical properties change in a gradient manner is provided integrally in the portion of the boundary between the ceramic and metal composition layers. ;SOLUTION: A functionally gradient ceramic-metal material 10 is constituted integrally out of a ceramic composition layer 12, a metal composition layer 14 and a compound composition layer 16 provided in the portion of the boundary between the ceramic composition layer 12 and the metal composition layer 14. On first powder constituted mainly out of metal, second powder constituted mainly out of a ceramic nitride, carbon and the metal is laminated and the laminate is subjected to simultaneous molding. After a molded material is obtained in this way, nitriding is executed in parallel with firing or sintering. On the occasion, the temperature region in a sintering process for densification is made identical and the element added is diffused to both the ceramic side and the metal side. Thereby the composition and the physical properties are made to change smoothly from the sides of the metal and the ceramic toward the sides of the ceramic and the metal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
