PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently carry out NOX purification by installing a corona discharge reactor which reduces NOX generated at the time of burning a hydrocarbon fuel into nitrogen N2 and oxygen O2 and connecting the reactor in a manner that a part of the hydrocarbon fuel can be supplied to the reactor for promoting NOX reduction. SOLUTION: An exhaust gas 62 of an internal combustion engine 60 is sent to a NOX reducing reactor 66 through a leading pipe 64 and at that time pollution factors with high energy such as HC and CO are oxidized by at least one corona discharge reactor 68 installed in the prior stage of the NOX reducing reactor 66. A fuel mist 79 generated by increasing the pressure of the fuel 78 in a fuel tank 76 by a fuel pump 74 and spraying out the fuel by a nozzle 75 is supplied to the NOX reducing reactor 66. The fuel mist is evaporated by high heat of the hot exhaust gas 62 and bonded with the hydrocarbon remaining after treatment in the prior oxidation stage to accelerate reduction of the NOX compound into diatomic nitrogen molecules N2 and O2 .
