PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject anti-stress agent high in safety, capable of being continuously taken every day, having alleviating and preventing effects on mental and physical symptoms caused by stress, comprising an acid milk as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This anti-stress agent comprises an acid milk, preferably one obtained by fermenting an animal milk as a raw material with a lactic acid bacterium of the genus Lactobacillus, especially Lactobacillus helveticus (ATCC 55,796). In the fermentation, for example, preferably a milk-containing stock solution is sterilized by heating, cooled to a fixed culture temperature, mixed with the lactic acid bacterium which was precultured, cultured at 30-45 deg.C for 6-24 hours and the number of bacteria of =108 bacteria/g and the acidity of lactic acid of =1 are judged as the finish point of the culture.
