PROTEIN DATABASE SYSTEM AND ESTIMATION OF PROTEIN FUNCTION AND FUNCTIONAL SITE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the estimation of functions and functional sites even for a protein unknown in functions which cannot be estimated according to a homology search by decomposing an amino acid sequence of the protein unknown in the functions into oligopeptides and searching for a database. SOLUTION: An inputted amino acid sequence is decomposed into oligopeptides of a certain length by a means 1 and a protein database 2 is accessed to analyze the frequency of occurrence of the oligopeptides by a frequency analyzing means 4. The frequency of occurrence is graphically displayed by an outputting means 5. Data of a protein having the oligopeptides, the name/ functions of the protein having the oligopeptides with a high frequency of occurrence, the name/functions of the protein having the oligopeptides with a low frequency of occurrence or the oligopeptides with zero frequency of occurrence are extracted from the protein database 2 by a data extracting means 3 and displayed on the outputting means 5.
