PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent erosion and to decrease the generation of cleavage or crack and the sticking of white wash by using a refractory material prepared by blending a fused quartz material, a silicon carbide material and a natural silica material at a specific ratio as a refractory constituting the innermost wall part and the bottom part of an induction furnace for melting and smelting copper and a copper alloy and if necessary, adding a sintering assistant. ;SOLUTION: The required properties of the induction furnace lining refractory must possess to show residual expanding property by a heat receiving at the time of being used, to be small in the white wash and to be enhanced in corrosion resistance. The purpose is achieved by making the raw material of the lining refractory made of 20-85wt.% melting quartz material, 5-10wt.% silicon carbide material and 10-40wt.% natural silica material so as to be ≥90wt.% in total of 3 components and if necessary, made of a dry powdery monolithic refractory formed by adequately adding the firing assistant (e.g. boric anhydride, the quantity to be added is 1wt.%).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
