PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To visually understand an auroral phenomenon even outside a polar region by installing a particle accelerator and a magnet in a vacuum device, reproducing the auroral phenomenon in an upper atmosphere and demonstrating a substorm phenomenon. ;SOLUTION: The aurora is a natural phenomenon with magnificent light emission in a polar region, a device for reproducing the auroral phenomenon in a upper atmosphere and demonstrating a substorm phenomenon is provided by setting a particle accelerator and a magnet in a vacuum device simulating a universal space on the ground in order to explain its scientific principle. Since an electron and an ion are generated by the ionization of gas due to the discharge of high electric field, no special electron generating device is necessary in this device. Positive and negative particles, depending upon the polarity of the ion generating part, descend on the magnet simulating the magnetic field of earth and the actual orbit of the auroral particle is separately visible. In order to demonstrate the substorm phenomenon, this device enables the pulse-like discharge by a capacitor C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
