PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the application of negative pressure to an air suction device for a fiber machine in its lotting process regarding required energy and effect caused thereby. SOLUTION: In order to optimize the suction force of an air suction device for a fiber machine regarding energy and effect through the application thereto of negative pressure set in advance to a basic required level and a process- required level after the start of the lotting process for thread, a method for controlling the negative pressure counts up, at predetermined time intervals, defectives to be never processed resulting from the application of slight negative pressure or trials of removing such defectives to subsequently vary the suction force of the suction mechanism, and then compares, after another time interval, the number of the counted defectives of that type with that counted during the previous time interval. If the difference in number of defectives obtained through the comparison is above a predetermined maximum number of defectives, the control method chooses higher suction force, while if the difference is below the predetermined number, the control method chooses lower suction force.
