PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the saturation of pixel color intensity that is caused by addition effect and to add shading when several light sources exist by providing at least one additional depth buffer means which is a light source subassembly that is used by a computer image generator and a light source processor means which receives the data signal. ;SOLUTION: A light source subassembly that is used by a computer image generator 10 is provided with at least one additional depth buffer means in addition to a depth buffer means 16b which is related to the position of an observer and temporarily stores a data signal that represents a part of a scene polygon that can be shown in an image space which is illuminated by a light source that illuminates each displayed scene. It is also provided with a light source processor means, and it receives a data signal from an additional depth buffer means, adjusts illuminance in accordance with a light source that illuminates each pixel that is lettered by the means 16 and shows the scene to the observer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
