PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new protein as an enzyme existing in an animal cell and consisting of a polypeptide of a human proteasome subunit having a specific amino acid sequence, useful for the diagnosis, treatment, etc., of cancer, Alzheimer disease, an immune disease, etc. ;SOLUTION: This human proteasome subunit P58 protein having an amino acid sequence represented by the formula, is useful for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases related to the proteasome such as cancer, Alzheimer disease and an immune disease, and also possible to perform the diagnosis and treatment of the above diseases by using an antibody against the polypeptide, a polynucleotide, or an antisense polynucleotide. The polypeptide is obtained by collecting a cDNA of human 26S proteasome subunit P58 from a human cDNA library by using a gene fragment of the constituting factor of 26S proteasome controlling factors of a bovine erythrocyte as a probe, and expressing the cDNA in a host cells by integrating the cDNA into a vector.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
