PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber amplifier with higher output by using a wavelength multiple method. ;SOLUTION: An optical fiber 5 doped with erbium as rare earth ion is connected with an optical fiber 6 through an optical isolator 4. Both ends of the erbium-doped fiber 5 are connected with a plurality of excitation light sources through a second wavelength multiple coupler 3 and a first wavelength multiple coupler 2. The excitation light sources 1a to 1d comprise the laser with a line width of about 5nm. The output lights emitted from the multiple light sources 1a to 1d are subject to wavelength multiplication, thereby making high-output excitation light to enter the erbium-doped fiber 5.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
