PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the position of an underwater travel body moved vertically along various loci such as a spiral locus with high accuracy and continuously measure the three-dimensional velocity distribution of the peripheral flow field with high accuracy. ;SOLUTION: This measuring device for the shift position of an underwater travel body and the flow velocity of the peripheral flow field is provided with an inertial navigation device 21, a multi-layer Doppler current meter 28 measuring the moving velocity and shift position of the underwater travel body separately from the inertial navigation device 21, a correction arithmetic means 32 making mutual corrections of measured results based on the differences between the moving velocity and shift position of the underwater travel body measured by the inertial navigation device 21 and the moving velocity and shift position of the underwater travel body measured by the multi-layer Doppler current meter 28, and a flow velocity distribution arithmetic means 30 calculating the three-dimensional flow velocity distribution corresponding to the corrected shift position of the peripheral flow field of the locus.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
