PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate and recover isoquinoline and thienopyridine each containing a low-sulfur-isoquinoline in high efficiency by using a specific type zeolite as an adsorbent in this method for separating isoquinoline and thienopyridine from a mixture containing both the compounds by an adsorption and separation method. ;SOLUTION: Faujasite type zeolite, especially Y type faujasite zeolite substituted with one or more metal ions, especially magnesium, strontium and tin ions is preferable as the adsorbent used. Mordenite type zeolite especially substituted with sodium ion is also preferable. A fraction containing components having b.p. of 230-250°C is preferable as the isoquinoline mixture to be the raw material. Acidic components such as phenols and a heavy substance such as pitch are previously removed. The adsorption and separation are preferably carried out in a liquid phase since side reactions can be suppressed and the adsorption and separation is performed at 0-200°C under atmospheric pressure to 50kg/cm2.G.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
