PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with the difference in a requested resolution and to efficiently provide digital photographic images by obtaining the digital photographic images and digital character images and composting them in separate devices. SOLUTION: A character data obtaining device 10 compresses character data for specifying character images to be composited with photographic images. A digital photographic image obtaining device 20 obtains the digital photographic images of B, G and R from the image signal obtained by photographing a photographic original and irreversibly compresses them, and the digital photograph image obtaining device 30 obtains the digital photographic images of B, G and R from the image signals for which a photo-CD is read and irreversibly compresses them. An image processor 40 receives the reversibly compressed character data transmitted from the character data obtaining device 10 and prepares the digital character images. Also, it receives the irreversibly compressed digital photographic images transmitted from the digital photographic image devices 20 and 30 and magnifies the obtained compound digital photographic images of B, G and R. Then, composite digital images are prepared from these images.
