PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and surely discriminate the cultivar of rice plants by carrying out a polymerase chain reaction(PCR) with a primer having a base sequence specific for markers on both sides of a microsatellite using a rice plant DNA as a template and measuring the length of the amplified DNA fragments. ;SOLUTION: This method for specifying a rice plant cultivar comprising using a DNA of the rice plant as a template, carrying out a PCR with two kinds of DNA primers respectively derived from base sequences specific for microsatellite markers located at both ends of a microsatellite of the microsatellite markers, measuring the length of DNA fragments amplified by the PCR, discriminating the repetitive sequence in the amplified DNA fragments from the results of measurement, simply and surely discriminating and specifying the rice plant cultivar from the results of the discrimination and testing the purity of a rice plant seed in the method for specifying the rice plant cultivar with the microsatellite markers containing the microsatellite having the base sequence in which AT or TA is repeated five times or more.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
