PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for radical polymerization by which the control in the same manner as that on ionic or coordination polymerization can be carried out even at a relative low temperature of about 0°C and a purely block or a random homopolymer and copolymer can be synthesized. ;SOLUTION: At least one of an acrylic or a methacrylic monomer and/or a vinylic monomer is polymerized or copolymerized in the presence of an initiator system containing at least one radical producer compound and at least one catalyst comprising a metallic complex represented by the formula MAa(L)n [M denotes Fe, Ru or Os; A denotes a halogen or a pseudo-halogen; L denotes a ligand (which may be a chiral ligand) and selected from PRR'R", P(OR)(OR ')(OR'"), NRR'R", ORR', SRR', SeRR', AsRR'R" and SbRR'R" [R, R' and R" are each an alkyl group or an aromatic group) and at least two may mutually be connected with one or more bivalent groups; (a) is an integer of 1-3; (n) is an integer of 1-3] in the absence of an activator in a bulk, a solution or a suspension.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
