PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large screen display device having a small picture element pitch. SOLUTION: In a glass-made cylindrical envelope 3, an opening part 4 is formed along a lengthwise direction. In an internal surface of the envelope 3, an anode 8 comprising an anode conductor 6 and a fluorescent material layer 7 having permeability is formed. In the center of the envelope 3, a filament-shaped cathode 15 is provided to be extended. A plurality of substantially semi-cylindrical control electrodes 12 surrounding the cathode 15 are arranged in the envelope 3. A lead 13 of the control electrode 12 is protruded to the outside from the opening part 4. A seal member 5 is burried in the opening part 4. A plurality of these display devices 1 are mutually parallelly closely arranged, to provide a large display device. A scanning signal is given to the control device 12 connected in common, and a display signal synchronized with this signal is given to the anode 8 of the display device 1. Of the solid state anodes 8, a part corresponding to the control electrode 12 with the given scanning signal is selected as a picture element, and the concerned part is illuminated in a dot shape, so as to perform a graphic display.
