PRODUCTION OF FUNCTIONAL COATING MATERIAL CONTAINING FINE FISH SCALE POWDER AS LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a functional coating material having improved humidity conditioning performances, ultraviolet absorptivity, heat resistance, fireproofing properties, economical profitability and environmental protection in addition to the merits of a conventional functional coating material containing a polystyrene foam powder by using a fine powder of defatted, washed and dried fish scales. ;SOLUTION: The fish scales used are those of a fish such as a sardine, a sea bream or a saury. A fine powder of defatted, washed and dried scales has a very small specific gravity of 0.037 and is bulky, so that it has a marked heat-insulating, temperature-keeping and soundproofing effect owing to its air layer. A coating material containing a fine fish scale powder of a mean particle diameter of 0.10.5 mm, 12.0wt.% pearlite, 27.0wt.% inorganic binder, 48.6wt.% inorganic extender, 1.4wt.% organic additive and 6.0wt.% synthetic resin is obtained. When compared with a polystyrene foam, this powder functions as a fireproofing agent in fire and has excellent functionality in dew condensation prevention effect, flame retardancy, etc., and therefore it can be used as a light-weight aggregate of a coating material component.
