PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To count the frequency of reference to hypertext information in detail. SOLUTION: This information reference frequency counting device is constituted of a server software 3 of a WWW server 1 which manages hypertext information, a browser 8 of a client 7 which refers to the hypertext information while mutually communicating with the server software 3, a reference frequency counting means 6 which accumulates the frequency of reference to the hypertext information by reference routes, and a reference information informing means 9 which automatically informs the reference frequency counting means 6 of other reference information automatically when the hypertext information is referred to. The reference information informing means 9 is a program such as a Java applet which is transferred from the server software 3 together with the hypertext information when the hypertext information is referred to by the browser 8.
