PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new reagent for determining fluorine ion, capable of quantitatively providing a fluorescent compound and detecting fluorine ion in high sensitivity by selectively reacting with only fluorine ion in a sample. ;SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [R1 is H or OCH3; R2 and R3 are each H, or CH3; R4 to R6 are each CH3 or C(CH3)3; S is H, OCH3 or OC2H5], e.g. 3-(2-t-butyldimethylsiloxy-1-naphtyl)-propenoic ester. Furthermore, the compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of the formula ClSiR4R5R6 in an inert organic solvent in the presence of a base such as triethylamine.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
