PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing an α-amino acid substituted at the β-position with at least one (htero)aromatic group, the corresponding α-amino acid and a salt thereof. ;SOLUTION: A 4-carbamoyl-2-oxazolidinone compound or a 4-carboxy-2- oxazolidinone compound substituted the 5-position with a least one (hetero aromatic group is subjected to a treatment with H₂ in the presence of a catalyst. An α-amino-β-hydroxypropane nitrile substituted at the β-position with at least one (hetero)aromatic group or itsalt is subjected to a treatment in the presence of CO₂ and a base in a process for preparing the 4-carbamoyl-2-oxazolidinone compound substituted at the 5-position with at least one (hetero)aromatic group.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
