HOLE-MAKING METHOD IN PLATE-LIKE BRITTLE MATERIAL AND DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the hole-making work in a brittle material by a method wherein a closed curve-like streak corresponding to the contour of a hole is provided on one side of the plate-like brittle material, the region outward the streak is fixed by pressure with a flexible member so as to cut off the brittle material by a vertical section along the streak by utilizing the frictional force generating in the contact bonded surface. ;SOLUTION: In order to make a hole in a flat glass 1, first of all, streaks S₁-S₃ for inner periphery cutting, outer periphery cutting and separation are respectively formed on the top surface of the flat glass. Next, on a flexible member 11 made of a material, the Young's modulus of which is smaller than that of the flat glass 1, a through hole 12, the contour of which includes the streak S₁ inside. Further, in order to press the flexible member 11 from above and below, pressurizing plates 13 are provided and, in addition, a pressurizing member 16 is provided so as to apply a load W to the pressurizing plate 13. By applying the load W to the pressurizing member 16, cutting off is develops at all the vertical sections passing through the streaks S₁-S₃. Further, a portion existing inward the streak S₁ is separated by being applied with compressed air pressure so as to form the circumference of a hollow circular disc.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
