PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a correction method which can correct the distortion of images with as little information content as possible and with high accuracy shown on a display device. ;SOLUTION: A TV camera photographs a test pattern, which is shown on a display device kept in its initial control state. Then a distortion curve showing the distortion of the test pattern is extracted from the image that has been acquired by the TV camera. A numerical value which is approximately shown in plural known distortion vectors and the numerical value that is connected to the basic vector information is extracted as the distortion characteristics. When the extracted numerical value is stored in a storage means and the image is shown on a display device, the distortion curve is reproduced approximately by means of the numerical values stored in the storage means and the basic vector. Then the display device is corrected or controlled to eliminate the distortions, based on the reproduced distortion curve.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
