PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous microdispersion in which a disperse dye is effectively dispersed in the form of microparticles and which, even when it has a high solid content, is lowly viscous and stable and which is highly adaptable for a dyeing step by specifying the acid value of the constituent water-soluble polyester and specifying the mean particle diameter of the microparticles. ;SOLUTION: This microdispersion consists essentially of water, a water-soluble organic solvent, a disperse dye and a water-soluble polyester having an acid value of 100-250. The mean particle diameter of the dispersed microparticles should be 0.25μm or below. The polyester used is an anionic water-soluble polyester obtained by using a sulfonated diol or a carboxylated diol as a component of the diol component. The disperse dye is dispersed in this polyester to obtain a stable dispersion. The materials for synthesizing the polyester is a sulfonated diol or a carboxylated diol represented by e.g. formula I or II and being a substance in which the functional groups are protected. An aqueous microdispersion of the disperse dye is mixed with a liquid medium comprising water and a humectant solvent such as a polyhydric alcohol, and the pH of the obtained mixture is adjusted to 5-10 to obtain an ink jet recording ink.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
