PURPOSE:To maintain the shift-range change-over control at a proper level by causing increase in the drive voltage of a motor in case a motor lock or the like occurs, and causing rotation of this motor with a large torque and thereby quickly releasing the motor lock. CONSTITUTION:A motor-lock release apparatus comprises a current detector 28 for detecting a drive current value of a motor 50 to output the resulting detection signal to a range control section 20, and a rotation detector 26 for detecting a state of rotation of the motor 50 to output the resulting signal to a range control section 20. This range control section 20 has a voltage change-over means which, when the drive current value of the motor 50 is not less than a specified value and the rotation thereof is not detected, causes an increase in the drive voltage of the motor 50.
