PURPOSE: To calculate the turning direction accurately regardless of the shift of load in a vehicle. ;CONSTITUTION: When speeds V13, V14 are calculated (P1) based on the rotational angular speeds of left and right driven tires W3, W4 which are calculated based on a wheel speed pulse delivered from a wheel speed sensor, a first constant βis obtained (P2-P3) with the lateral G and load of vehicle as parameters. The speeds V13, V14 are then corrected based on the lateral G and the first constant β of vehicle thus obtaining speeds V23, V24 (P4) from which the fluctuation caused by the shift of load in the vehicle, proportional to the lateral G of vehicle, is removed. Furthermore, the turning radius R of vehicle is calculated (P5) based on the speeds V23, V24 thus obtained. In other words, the turning radius of vehicle can be calculated accurately by removing the fluctuation caused by the shift of load in the vehicle. When it is employed in the detection of air pressure drop of tire, a judgment can be made surely whether a vehicle is running straight or turning.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
