PURPOSE: To provide the highly vivid and bright liquid crystal display device and the electronic devices, such as image pickup device, copying machines, plate making device for printing, facsimile communication devices, optical communication devices or image arithmetic units, by providing the liquid crystal element having a high and bright contrast and a high-speed response characteristic. ;CONSTITUTION: This liquid crystal element 1 include a pair of light transparent substrates 2, 3 formed with transparent electrodes 4, 5 respectively on the surfaces facing each other, a power source 11 for applying a voltage to the transparent electrodes 4, 5 and first and second liquid crystal layers 6, 7 interposed between a pair of the light trasmissive substrates 2 and 3. The first and second liquid crystal layers 6, 7 are incorporated into three-dimensional network high-polymer compds. and the orientation directions of the liquid crystal molecules, are approximately aligned in one direction.
