PRODUCTION OF ETHYLENE SULFIDE/SULFUR COPOLYMER AND ETHYLENE SULFIDE/SULFUR COPOLYMER PRODUCED THEREBY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel ethylene sulfide/sulfur copolymer by polymerizing ethylene sulfide with sulfur in the presence of a polymerization initiator selected from a specified group. ;SOLUTION: This copolymer is obtained by polymerizing ethylene sulfide with sulfur in the presence of at least one polymerization initiator selected among organic amines, quat. ammonium salts, 2-mercaptobenzotiazole metal salts, metal dialkyldithiocarbamates and metal dialkylxanthogenates. In order to adjust the molecular weight of the copolymer, at least one compound selected among organic mercaptan compounds, polysulfide compounds and sulphenamide compounds is added to the copolymerization reaction system. A water-miscible solvent is used as the polymerization solvent in this copolymerization. Although not limited, the polymerization temperature is desirably 20 to below 160°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
