PURPOSE: To provide the process for production of an aluminum alloy casting which is free from casting defects, such as shrinkage, in thick parts and has excellent airtightness by adding hydrogen to a molten aluminum alloy without oxidizing the melt, thereby diffusing and generating the shrinkage cavities of the casting to fine cells. ;CONSTITUTION: The metal hydride is added at a temp. above the liquidus line into the molten aluminum alloy for casting the alloy and is cast. A titanium hydride is used as the metal hydride and is added at 0.001 to 0.10% by weight into the molten aluminum alloy.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
