PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately work the effective diameter of a ball thread groove, the cylindricity of the effective diameter, and the lead accuracy by grinding the ball thread groove in the outer cylindrical surface of a material, whose outer diameter part is formed into a cylindrical shape, by setting the outer diameter cylindrical face as a standard. ;SOLUTION: A material 10a is rotated by a contact frictional force with a regulating grinding wheel 22 at the approximately same peripheral speed with the peripheral speed of the regulating grinding wheel 22. The central axis of the regulating grinding wheel 22 is inclined in such a state that the feed direction front side of the material 10a faces downward so that the material 10a is fed in the axial direction at a speed equivalent to the axial component of the peripheral speed of the regulating grinding wheel 22 along a blade 23 arranged axially and so cut spirally in the ridge part 21a of a grinding wheel 21. The material 10a is thus positioned by the blade 23 and the regulating grinding wheel 22, an amount of cutting depth of the ridge part 21a can be accurately decided by setting the outer diameter cylindrical face 11 of the material 10a as a standard, and the cylindricity of the effective diameter of the ball thread groove 12 can be accurately decided by setting the outer diameter cylindrical face 11 as a standard.
