PURPOSE:To obtain the org. nonlinear optical material and org. nonlinear optical element which hardly attain inverse symmetry in a bulk state such as crystal or thin film and have substantially no absorption in a visible region by using the compd. expressed by the special formula. CONSTITUTION:The nonlinear optical material and nonlinear optical element are formed by using the compd. expressed by the formula (I). In the formula, R1 denotes a hydrogen atom a cyano group and a heterocyclic group such as phenyl group; R3, R4 denote a hydrogen atom, a cyano group and a or heterocyclic group such as phenyl group or an atom group which constitutes the ring formed by combination of R3 and R4. There is no case when all of R1, R3, R4 are the hydrogen atom. R2 denote a hydrogen atom, alkyl group, acyl group.
