Recycled paper of property improvements for the amine functional poly (vinyl alcohol)

PURPOSE: To improve both the wet and dry strengths of a recycled paper by adding a specific amine functional poly(vinyl alcohol) during a step for preparation of a recycled paper product. ;CONSTITUTION: An amine functional poly(vinyl alcohol) is added to a wet end during a papermaking step to obtain a recycled paper product with improved wet and dry strengths. The amine functional poly(vinyl alcohol) used is the one in which vinyl acetate/vinyl amide copolymer or vinyl acetate/acrylamine copolymer is a base, a vinyl amide or acrylamine concentration is above 1 mole %, less than 10 mole % of the copolymer is hydrolyzed to such extent that vinyl acetate being above 75% and vinyl amide being above 25%, or the one which is produced by the reaction of poly(vinyl alcohol) with a amino- aldehyde dialkyl acetal, in which particularly above 75% of poly(vinyl alcohol) is hydrolyzed and an amine content is above 1 mole % but less than 15 mole % of vinyl alcohol units.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
