PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound which is a specific liquid crystal compound containing an unsaturated bond in a bond group, has an extremely high elastic constant ratio, an extremely low viscosity, excellent compatibility, chemical stability and an anisotropoic value of dielectric constant and is useful for a liquid crystal display element. ;SOLUTION: This new liquid crystal compound is shown by the formula [the ring A₀, A₁, A₂ and A₃ are each 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,3-dioxane-2,5-diyl, (substituted)1,4-phenylene, pyridine-2,5-diyl or 1,3-pyimidine-2,5-diyl; R₀, and R₁ are each a halogen, CN, a 1-20C (substituted)alkyl and a methylene group in the group is substitutable with O, S, Si, CH=CH or C≡C; Z₀ and Z₁ are each a covalent bond, 1,2-ethylene, methyleneoxy, carbonyloxy, etc.; (l) and (n) are each 0, 1 or 2; (m) is 1 to 4; (o) and (p) are each 0 to 4; l+n≤2; m+o+p≤4], has an extremely high elastic constant ratio (k₃₃/k₁₁), is extremely low in viscosity, excellent in compatibility, chemical stability and anisotropy of dielectric constant and is useful for a liquid crystal display element.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
